Overview
This session (part of the clinical focus meeting) will consider the role of MRI in assessing acute, chronic, and psychological trauma on the cardiovascular system.

Target Audience
Clinicians and technologists with an interest in various types of trauma or the cardiovascular system. Scientists and engineers interested in developing acquisition techniques applicable to imaging the cardiovascular system.

Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
- Explain the pattern of injury caused by various types of injury on the cardiovascular system;
- Identify injuries where MRI of the cardiovascular system may result in a change in patient care; and
- Describe unmet needs for future MRI techniques in assessing the effects of trauma on the cardiovascular system.

14:45		Takotsubo: A Myocardial Response to Trauma View Presentation Video Kim-Lien Nguyen Keywords: Cardiovascular: Cardiovascular, Cardiovascular: Myocardium, Cross-organ: Tissue characterisation Takotsubo cardiomyopathy represents a myocardial response to acute physiologic stress and is characterized by reversible left ventricular apical ballooning in the absence of angiographically significant coronary artery disease. Although the diagnosis is usually confirmed at the time of invasive coronary angiography, multimodality imaging can be performed to clinch the diagnosis earlier and non-invasively. Of the modalities, cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging has a central role due to its strengths in tissue characterization and vascular depiction. This presentation will discuss the physiology and provide evidence to support the use of MRI and MRA in Takotsubo cardiomyopathy.
