Overview
In this half-day course, basic principles of interventional MRI
will be reviewed with a special focus on how to perform the
intervention, and how to choose instruments and MR sequences for
the given problem. Specifically, catheter devices and sequences
for MR-guided vascular interventions will be discussed as well
as state-of-the-art vascular procedures. In addition, MR
sequences for temperature monitoring during RF and focused
ultrasound ablations will be described. The typical work flow
for MR-guided focused ultrasound procedures and RF ablation will
be presented as well as hot topics in interventional MRI, such
as navigation, applications of surgical assistance, robotics and
local drug delivery under MR guidance.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
• Explain how different types of interventional procedures are
performed,
• Recognize instruments and equipment suitable for MR guided
interventions,
• List pulse sequences most suited for interventional application,
• Describe clinical uses for MR guided vascular interventions,
• Recognize difficulties and pitfalls during interventions; and
• Identify emerging interventional fields and the challenges they
are facing.
Audience Description
This course is designed for:
•
Basic scientists and clinicians
wishing to enter the field, or just better understand basic
principles.
•
No prior experience is necessary.
