Overview

This one-day course in advanced musculoskeletal MRI, given over a half day on Saturday, and half-day on Sunday, will include a high level review of clinical imaging of the MSK system as well as detailing novel techniques for clinical musculoskeletal MRI. The course emphasis will be on technical developments for clinical musculoskeletal imaging and emerging techniques for quantitative measurements of cartilage, bone and muscle disease. Course participants will understand the current state-of-the-art clinical practice for MSK MRI, and will be able to assess the role and applications of advanced techniques for clinical imaging

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
• List the indications for MRI for diseases of the musculoskeletal system;
• Select appropriate protocols and coils for optimal musculoskeletal imaging;
• Describe the indications for MR arthrography for the shoulder, hip, elbow and wrist;
• Identify new techniques for quantitative imaging of articular cartilage;
• Explain the role of MRI in imaging muscle disease;
• Evaluate the role of MRI for quantitative imaging for bone mineral density ; and
• Apply new techniques for musculoskeletal imaging for specific indications such as suppression of metallic susceptibility artifacts;

This course is designed for:
• Musculoskeletal radiologists, MR specialists, medical physicists, engineer and general radiologists interested in MSK specialty practice.
