|
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate to Advanced |
Tuesday - Friday, 10-13 May 2011 |
|
Day 1: Tuesday -
Diffusion Imaging: Body Applications |
Clinical Intensive Education Option |
OVERVIEW |
Today’s session
will cover the technique of diffusion weighted imaging as applied to
body MRI and two clinical areas. We will address in detail the
technique of diffusion weighted imaging and its applications to
liver and renal lesion detection and characterization. |
|
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES |
Upon completion
of this course participants should be able to: |
«
Apply the basic concept of diffusion weighted imaging (DWI);
«
Recognize challenges and review solutions for diffusion body
MRI;
«
Describe the pertinent DWI concepts to detect and
characterize liver and renal lesions; and
«
Recognize the added value of DWI for imaging liver and renal
lesions. |
|
Day 2: Wednesday - MRI of the Uterus |
Clinical Intensive Education Option |
OVERVIEW |
This session will
cover the pelvic pain and the uterine congenital abnormalities
relevant to body MRI with the goal of improving knowledge of the
role of MRI in pelvic pain and uterine congenital abnormalities.
Lectures will illustrate how MRI can be applied to assess the
disease processes in both areas. |
|
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES |
Upon completion
of this course participants should be able to: |
«
Describe the basic anatomy of the pelvic floor and the
uterus;
«
Select the MRI sequences to depict the imaging findings of
pelvic pain; and
«
Diagnose the most common congenital uterine abnormalities. |
|
Day 3: Thursday - Treated Liver Lesions
& Small Renal Lesions |
Clinical Intensive Education Option |
OVERVIEW |
The course today
will cover the treated liver lesions and small renal lesions that
often create diagnostic challenges in daily clinical practice.
Increasing numbers of patients with primary liver lesions and liver
metastases undergo minimally invasive treatment, altering the
appearance of the liver lesions. MRI is a unique modality that can
monitor these effects of treatment. Comprehensive MRI can also
facilitate the detection and characterization of small renal lesions
that often are difficult to diagnose with other imaging modalities,
including CT. |
|
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES |
Upon completion
of this course participants should be able to: |
«
Implement basic MRI sequences to assess liver and renal
lesions;
«
Describe the post-treatment appearance of primary liver
lesions and metastases; and
«
Accurately assess small renal lesions using MRI. |
|
Day 4: Friday - Male & Female
Pelvis |
OVERVIEW |
Friday’s session
will cover the male and female pelvic floor, in particular, the non-oncological
aspects. Lectures will describe in detail the anatomy of the
pelvic floor, illustrate female pelvic floor abnormalities and
non-oncologic abnormalities of the male pelvis. |
|
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES |
Upon completion
of this course participants should be able to: |
«
Apply basic MRI sequences to assess male and female pelvis;
«
Interpret non-oncological abnormalities of the male pelvis
at MRI; and
«
Describe the female pelvic floor anatomy and diagnose the
most common abnormalities with MRI. |
