OVERVIEW |
This one-day course focuses on
magnetic resonance imaging of the brain across the life span. The
lectures are focused first on the perinatal period with
illustrations of the most common diseases at this period of time
(hypoxia-ischemia and seizures), followed by the impact of MRI in
specific pediatric diseases (infections, inflammatory and metabolic
disorders). Adult neuroimaging focuses on the problematic of
intracranial pressure, and finally on neuroimaging in elderly beyond
Alzheimer’s disease. The course is patient focused and considers the
impact of MRI in patient care and in the understanding of brain
pathologies. |
|
TARGET AUDIENCE |
MD's and PhD's who are interested
in the developing and aging brain and their specific diseases. |
|
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course,
participants should be able to: |
- Describe the normal
developmental anatomy;
- Recognize and describe
the imaging features of the primary causes of brain damage in
the neonatal period;
- Recognize and describe
the imaging features of the most frequent CNS infections,
inflammation and demyelination in pediatrics;
- Understand the needs of
intracranial pressure monitoring in brain diseases;
- Describe and interpret
the imaging modalities to assess intracranial pressure and its
variations; and
- Recognize and interpret
the brain pathologies of the aging brain with their differential
diagnosis beyond dementia.
