Joint Annual Meeting ISMRM-ESMRMB 2014 10-16 May 2014 Milan, Italy

WEEKDAY EDUCATIONAL COURSE
How Other Modalities Compare/Compete/Complement: Choose Thy Weapon
SKILL LEVEL: Basic
ORGANIZERS: Neal K. Bangerter, Ph.D. & Edward V.R. DiBella, Ph.D.
Tuesday, 13 May 2014

OVERVIEW
Too many of us live and work in an "MRI box". The aim of this course is to educate us on alternate, complementing, and competing modalities. What are they really good at? Where is there room for improvement? What are the economics of the modality? How do they compare with MRI? (Where could MRI add value, where will MRI never compete?) The course will consist of 4 segments: (1) Optical Imaging, (2) Nuclear medicine, (3) Ultrasound, and (4) Hybrid technologies (e.g., MR/PET, MR guided HIFU).

TARGET AUDIENCE
Those involved in MR research (both clinical and basic science) will benefit.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:

  • Refine their research efforts with a sharper focus on areas where MRI could potentially add significant value over other modalities.
