SKILL LEVEL: Basic

OVERVIEW
This course focuses on the MRI characterization of incidental cystic lesions in the kidneys and pancreas. A comprehensive review of the clinical challenges of assessing these cystic lesions will be presented. This course will emphasize the value of MRI over other imaging modalities for the characterization of these cystic lesions and present cost-effective strategies for follow up of pancreatic and renal cystic lesions with MRI to avoid undesired repeated exposure to ionizing radiation.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This course is aimed at radiologists, medical physicists, imaging scientists and MR technologists who wish to learn about cystic lesions in the kidney and pancreas and the use of MRI for characterization of these lesions.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate the utility of MRI in the characterization and follow up of incidental cystic lesions of the pancreas; and
  • Illustrate the use of MRI to characterize incidental cystic lesions in the kidneys.
