Overview
This two-hour course focuses on the utilization of MRI for radiation
planing in oncologic patients. Emphasis will be made on presenting the
requirements and challenges for the implementation of MRI protocols for
radiation therapy planning including patient preparation requirements
and general safety considerations. A practical approach to implementing
MRI protocols for radiation planing will be presented including a
detailed description of imaging needs and strategies for addressing
potential motion misregistration between MRI images and radiation
planing.
Target Audience
This course is aimed at radiologists, imaging scientists, radiation
oncologists, radiation oncology physicists, and MRI technologists who
wish to review the state-of-art MRI methods for utilizing MRI for
radiation planing and to learn about incorporating these methods in
routine clinical practice.
Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
• Convey the requirements and challenges in the implementation of MRI
protocols for radiation therapy planning;
• Implement MRI protocols for the planning of radiation therapy; and
• Illustrate emerging strategies for MRI-guided radiation therapy.
