How to Make Perfusion Imaging Become a Quantitative Imaging Biomarker
Member-Initiated Symposium ORGANIZERS: Linda Knutsson, Esben Petersen, Sophie Schmid
Tuesday, 19 June 2018
Session Number: MIS-08
Overview This Symposium was proposed by the Perfusion study group. There are three main MRI perfusion techniques existing today: Dynamic Contrast Enhanced (DCE) MRI, Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast (DSC) MRI and Arterial Spin Labelling (ASL). All three techniques have reached a level of technical acceptance such that they can be used for clinical practice. However, this does not make them fit to be used as proper imaging biomarkers in clinical trials, and a very clear pathway needs to be followed for these methods to be accepted as outcome measures in trials. This procedure has been established by the Quantitative Imaging Biomarker Alliance (QIBA) from the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). In addition, the European Society of Radiology has also established a subcommittee, the European Imaging Biomarker Alliance (EIBALL) establishing the rules of biomarker development within Europe. During this symposium, we aim to present to the whole ISMRM Perfusion study group the current efforts and endeavours of the members of the three committees involved in the development of the so-called QIBA profiles for making our three main tools become accepted quantitative imaging biomarkers. Target Audience Imaging scientists and clinicians interested in the development of perfusion as imaging biomarkers; members of the ISMRM Perfusion study group. Educational Objectives As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to: - Define the basics of the QIBA methodology for the development of imaging biomarkers; - Recognize the basic claims proposed DCE; - Recognize the basic claims proposed DSC; and - Recognize the basic claims proposed ASL. |
