N04  07:00 - 07:50 Moderators:  Koji Sakai, Yi-Fen Yen

Skill Level: Basic

Session Number: S-Tu-03

Overview
This session introduces fast imaging techniques that are getting available in the clinic. Four cutting-edge techniques -- compressed sensing, synthetic MRI, multiband imaging, and fingerprinting -- will be covered one in each day. The background physics and clinical applications will be discussed.

Target Audience
Medical doctors who are interested in fast imaging and physicists who are interested in clinical applications.

Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
-Describe the basic physics of each method: compressed sense, synthetic MRI, multiband imaging and fingerprinting; and
-Discuss how each method impacts clinical imaging.

  Basic Physics of Multiband Imaging
Berkin Bilgic
MultiBand imaging simultaneously excites and encodes multiple imaging slices, and teases them apart with effective usage of the degrees of freedom in modern multi-channel receive arrays. This talk will focus on principles of excitation, encoding and reconstruction of this volumetric acquisition scheme, which has improved the sampling efficiency of functional and diffusion weighted imaging, and found promising applications in structural and quantitative imaging.
