Non-Contrast Cardiac MR Assessment of Ischemic Heart Disease
Member-Initiated Symposium ORGANIZERS: Gabriele Bonanno, Sonia Nielles-Vallespin, Michael Salerno
Monday, 13 May 2019
Session Number: MIS-05
Overview This Symposium was proposed by the Cardiac MR study group. Coronary artery disease is a major cause of death in the Western world, and many patients suffer from angina resulting from cardiac ischemia. Vasodilator stress CMR perhaps emerged as a powerful tool for the evaluation of ischemic heart disease. However, the most commonly used techniques (e.g. perfusion) require the administration of exogenous contrast media which is contra-indicated in patients with poor renal function, and there are growing concerns over gadolinium deposition. The proposed Symposium will critically review the emerging techniques of the last decade that aim to assess ischemia non-invasively and without the use of contrast media. It will consist of 5 presentations. Overall, the proposed Symposium aims to provide a platform for a fertile discussion between clinicians and technical scientists to 1) give an educational overview of the fundamentals of such cutting-edge research developments, 2) critically review their current status, and 3) identify those hurdles that prevent a broader adoption of noncontrast functional CMR by the clinical community. Target Audience Every ISMRM member wishing to participate to a platform for discussion on cutting-edge research developments in Cardiac MRI. Educational Objectives As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to: - Explain the Importance of emerging non-contrast functional CMR; - Describe technical fundamentals and unmet challenges of emerging non-contrast functional CMR; - Identify the unmet clinical challenges of emerging non-contrast functional CMR; and - Describe the future directions for non-contrast functional CMR. |
