Beyond Space & Time: The Power of Extra Dimensions in MRI
Member-Initiated Symposium ORGANIZERS: Ricardo Otazo, Debiao Li
Tuesday, 14 May 2019
Session Number: MIS-07
Overview A recent paradigm shift in MRI has seen the addition of extra time dimensions to dynamic imaging. On the surface, adding new dimensions would appear to make MRI more challenging, but recent high-profile developments in compressed sensing and low-rank tensor imaging have shown that this multidimensional image structure can be exploited to improve over conventional imaging performance and enable access to new physiological information of clinical interest. For example, the new imaging paradigm enables to jointly image multiple overlapped dynamics such as cardiac and respiratory motion, flow, relaxation, and others, as a single multidimensional entity. Over the course of four talks, the symposium will: 1) present these recent cutting-edge developments, such as XD-GRASP (eXtra-Dimensional Golden-angle RAdial Sparse Parallel imaging), XD Flow, dynamic SPICE (SPectroscopic Imaging by exploiting spatiospectral CorrElation), and MR Multitasking; and 2) showcase their impact on cancer imaging, cardiovascular flow imaging, dynamic spectroscopic imaging, multiparameter mapping, and more. The talks will be followed by a joint discussion section with all speakers. Target Audience Every ISMRM member wishing to learn about and participate in a discussion on cutting-edge developments and applications of multidimensional MRI. Educational Objectives As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to: - Define the limitations of conventional dynamic MRI; - Improve technical background, learning multidimensional compressed sensing and low-rank tensor imagi; and - Identify the implications of multidimensional imaging for various biomedical applications. |
