Overview
This course will familiarize the audience with the indications, techniques, advantages and limitations of abbreviated protocols for imaging the liver and prostate gland.

Target Audience
Junior to senior radiologists in clinical practice.

Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
- Explain when to use abbreviated protocols;
- Describe the technique of abbreviated protocols; and
- Recognize the limitations of abbreviated protocols.

Multiparametric prostate MRI (mpMRI) protocols that consist of T2-weighted imaging (T2WI), diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), dynamic contrast-enhancing imaging, and T1-weighted imaging provide excellent performance for evaluating prostate cancer (PCa). Recently, abbreviated prostate MRI protocols (or biparametric MRI, bpMRI) that consist of only T2WI and DWI continue to gain support for detecting PCa. It can offer several advantages over mpMRI. In this presentation, my talks would introduce bpMRI protocols and furthermore, advantages and limitations of bpMRI protocols are discussed.

Increasing utilization and demand of Liver MRI presents both challenges and unique opportunities.  Strategies incudes  optimization and  development of faster pulse sequences, hybrid imaging, automated exam planning and reducing  pulse sequences acquired. The latter approach essentially amounts to abbreviated Liver MRI protocols. Various approaches have been described  such as acquiring  noncontrast sequences only ,  dynamic postcontrast series only or a combination of T2,DWI and delayed postcontrast images for HCC screening or surveillance and detection and surveillance of liver metastases. Noncontrast Multiparametric MRI providing liver fat ,iron and fibrosis quantification is also being increasing utilized as a replacement for liver biopsy.
