Overview
The process from research idea to clinical implementation isn’t straightforward, and it often involves IP and commercialization. This course will provide an introduction to the basics of intellectual property and commercialization combined with stories from our community of successful paths to commercialization. Additionally, the course will address regulatory aspects of commercialization. The course will conclude with a discussion of the value of a patent and the impacts of patents on open science.
Target Audience
Scientists, medical physicists, engineers, radiologists, and technologists at all career levels interested in the patent and commercialization processes.
Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
- Explain the process of patenting work with an international perspective;
- Assess the impacts of patenting work; and
- Compare different paths from research method to commercialization.
