Overview
The grant-writing session in 2021 was well-received, and in 2022, there was a session on planning diverse clinical trials. Building on these sessions, 2023 will have a session on how to successfully manage and lead scientific projects.

Target Audience
All researchers (PIs, post-doctoral fellows) interested in learning how to successfully manage grants and all the challenges associated.

Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
- Manage scientific projects to achieve goals on time; and
- Assemble the team and create the environment to succeed.

07:00   Getting It Done: Project Management for Scientific Research Andrew Webb

Keywords: Transferable skills: Project management

This talk will discuss many different aspects of project management for a scientific grant, hopefully without sounding too much like a self-help therapy session translated into management doublespeak. It will build on personal experience of hating project management with a passion, and having made every single mistake possible over the years.
07:30   How To Do Everything with Rising Costs & 80% of the Budget
Richard Wise

Keywords: Transferable skills: Project management, Transferable skills: Research coordination

In a world of rising prices and trimmed research budgets how can you fully deliver your research project? We will discuss how to plan your expenditure and resource management to maximise the delivery of your science. How can we deal with inflation and still purchase the equipment needed? How can we conduct our imaging to minimise experimental costs? What extra resources can we bring to the project? These are important questions to consider for anyone whose research is under financial pressure, which is probably all of us.
