Overview
Pulse sequences and imaging techniques often evolve beyond their initial descriptions in the literature, adding refinements over time that are key to practical implementation. Each hour of this sunrise session presents a deep-dive tutorial into a specific technique from start to finish, highlighting the details that make each technique really work in practice.

Target Audience
Physicists, engineers, and clinicians looking to implement their own sequences or gain a more comprehensive understanding of how various MRI acquisitions work under the hood.

Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
- Identify the key components in a modern EPI acquisition and its corrections;
- Describe the characteristics of an MR fingerprinting acquisition and inference scheme;
- Explain the workings of a TSE/FSE/RARE acquisition and its various refinements; and
- Summarize the methods for ASL acquisitions and associated physiological modelling.

07:00   Arterial Spin Labeling: Acquisition Lirong Yan

Keywords: Contrast mechanisms: Perfusion, Image acquisition: Sequences

Arterial spin labeling (ASL) is a non-invasive MRI technique for cerebral blood flow (CBF) measurement by utilizing magnetically labeled blood as an endogenous tracer. This educational lecture will introduce the basics of ASL acquisition, including labeling schemes, imaging readout, single- and multi-PLD acquisitions, background suppression, and recommended imaging parameters for clinical applications. It will also cover some advanced ASL topics, such as MR fingerprinting ASL, vessel-selective ASL, body ASL, and ASL-based MRA.
07:30   Arterial Spin Labeling: Modeling Andre Paschoal

Keywords: Contrast mechanisms: Perfusion, Image acquisition: Image processing

This talk aims to give an overview of the fundamental kinetic model to explain the ASL signal, the key bullets in the processing of the data to have a high-quality perfusion weighted image and quantitative perfusion-related parameters. The processing flow will continue through advanced steps that can be inserted into the pipeline to have a more accurate map or to obtain additional parameter maps.
