Pushing the Boundaries of Diffusion MRI Across Field Strengths &
Gradient Performance
Member-Initiated Session
Thursday, 09 May 2024
Room 325-326
16:00 - 18:00
Moderators: Santiago
Coelho
Session Number: MIS-10
No CME/CE Credit
Overview:
This MIS is endorsed by the Diffusion study group.
The emergence of high-performance gradient coils holds the promise of
unlocking new avenues for advanced diffusion MRI in both human and
preclinical research, providing more sensitive insights into tissue
microstructure in health and disease. Concurrently, low-field MRI
systems have undergone a significant advancement driven by hardware and
software improvements. Originally regarded as low-cost but
underperforming systems, low-field MRI systems have overcome their
initial limitations and now support a variety of applications that
complement high-field MRI systems.
The principles of high-performance gradient coil design have been
highlighted at recent ISMRM annual meetings. The goal of this
Member-Initiated Symposium is to shed light on the exciting prospects
presented by existing and emerging high-performance gradient systems
across different field strengths in diffusion MRI. The symposium's
structure will consist of a two-hour session featuring six speakers,
each allotted a 15-minute slot. The session will conclude with a
30-minute panel discussion, focusing on identifying opportunities to
tailor high-performance gradient hardware for innovative techniques and
applications in the field of diffusion MRI. This collaborative exchange
of ideas promises to catalyze innovative developments and further
advancements in the realm of diffusion MRI.
Target Audience:
Clinicians, MRI researchers and developers interested in advanced
diffusion MRI, gradient coil technology, and low-field MRI innovations.
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
- Gain knowledge about the latest advancements in high-performance
gradients and how they can enhance diffusion MRI, enabling better image
quality and definition of healthy and pathological tissue structure;
- Learn how low-field MRI systems have evolved and how they can now
support a wide range of applications, offering unique benefits compared
to high-field MRI systems; and
- Understand the technical challenges and solutions related to
high-performance gradient coil design and their translational potential
to the clinic.
