Call for 2024 Junior Fellow Nominees

Objective
The International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) Junior Fellow Program has been established to recognize outstanding researchers and clinicians at an early stage in their careers, with an established and long-term commitment to ISMRM. Junior Fellowship may be maintained for up to ten (10) years as long as ISMRM membership remains current. Individuals will be selected as Junior Fellows for 2024 on the basis of a nomination process that demonstrates a commitment to the ISMRM through membership and participation in ISMRM activities and potential as outstanding scientists or physicians working in the area of magnetic resonance. Junior fellows will be recognized in the following ways:
- Acknowledgment of Junior Fellow status to the awardee’s department chair from ISMRM President;
- Guaranteed trainee stipend for the 2024 ISMRM Annual Meeting;
- Mentorship by a senior ISMRM Fellow during the first year, providing guidance on career development and ISMRM structure, services and opportunities for society engagement;
- Assignment to an ISMRM committee as a non-voting observer;
- Assignment to the Trainee Advisory Working Group;
- Opportunity to participate in development of an annual meeting session;
- Acknowledgment on the ISMRM website (https://www.ismrm.org/about/society-award-winners/)

2024 membership is required for this program.
All nominees MUST join or pay 2024 dues by the deadline specified above. Failure to do so will result in your application being denied.

Eligibility
To be eligible for this program, the applicant must be a current trainee member of the ISMRM at the time of nomination and also have attended at least one ISMRM Annual Meeting in the past.
Selection Criteria
The selection of Junior Fellows will be made solely at the discretion of the ISMRM Awards Committee, which holistically evaluates past contributions and society service, as well as future potential for outstanding achievements to the field of magnetic resonance. As summarized in the nominee’s CV, motivation letters, and nominator’s letter of support, the ideal applicant must have exhibited a promising career trajectory in MR, independence and innovation in research, clinical practice, and/or education, and long-term dedication to the ISMRM as evidenced by participation in annual meetings, workshops, and courses. Other specific criteria that will be considered include:
- Body of scholarly work related to MR (papers, abstracts, book chapters, etc.).
- Years of ISMRM membership and number of annual meetings attended.
- ISMRM activities / engagement (eg. study group membership).
- Quality of the letter of motivation describing nominee’s vision for how they will leverage their Junior Fellow appointment to further their career and also to contribute to the ISMRM.
Nomination Guidelines and Process
The ISMRM Junior Fellow Program, like other awards, is based on nominations, which should be completed before the deadline specified above.
- Nominations can be made by any individual with a current or recent (< 1 year) supervisory or mentoring role (e.g. PhD / post-doctoral fellow supervisor, PhD thesis committee member, clinical Residency / Fellowship Director, Department Chair).
- Completion of the online application form is made by the nominator. Nominator should upload a confidential letter of support, and should include a description of their relationship to the nominee.
- Before the deadline, the nominator will also upload the following materials, provided to the nominator by the nominee:
- Full curriculum vitae (CV) in PDF format.
- Letter of motivation (see Selection Criteria) in PDF format.
- The letter of motivation must be on the nominee’s institutional letterhead and also should include a précis of the nominee’s CV. The letter should be no more than 2 pages (single spaced).
- The letter or CV should include the following information:
- A list of ISMRM meetings (both face-to-face and virtual) attended, including Annual meetings, Workshops, and Educational Courses.
- A list of ISMRM study group memberships.
- A list of presentations at ISMRM meetings and all peer-review publications related to MR.
- A description of research activities and training, indicating interest and research expertise in magnetic resonance.
- A description of clinical activities and training, indicating interest and clinical expertise in magnetic resonance.
- A description of educational activities and training, indicating interest and expertise in education related to magnetic resonance.
