The last week in July is universally recognized as MR Safety Week, inspired by the anniversary and 2001 tragic MRI-related death of Michael Colombini, age 6, resulting from a steel oxygen cylinder being brought into the MRI room during his exam 1, 2, 3. The initial goal of this week was to prevent such a tragedy from happening again and has expanded into a week-long event giving us a chance to refresh our safety education and highlight some of the issues we all face in the MR environment.
MR Safety is an important part of our lives, and education is the cornerstone of a safe MR workplace. The ISMRT safety committee, in support and recognition of this event, has compiled a variety of resources to remind us to check our site procedures to ensure we follow best practices. This year, we offer a series of virtual meetings on a variety of aspects of safety in the MR workplace.
Registration includes access to each virtual meeting throughout the week. You are not obligated to participate every day, only the days you wish. Accreditation will be offered based on attendance at each live virtual event.
Claiming Credit

Overview:This session will cover the roles of the MRSO and MRSE in the setting of a new department and also in hybrid departments. Overview: This virtual meeting will cover two key topics. First, the use and evolution of FMDs in the clinical workspace. There have been many advances in the technology available, and with the current trend in projectile incidence, the need for such technology and the appropriate training on how to use it has become more important globally. The second topic is based on a publication in progress of a collection of MRI safety standards across the globe and where challenges lie. Given the low rates of incident reporting and MRI safety roles established for new and existing MRI facilities, the need to have global recognition for standardization of safety roles and expected expertise is necessary.

Overview: This installment of Safety Week addresses current MRI safety challenges and possible solutions to remote MRI scanning. This comes from a current UK operator. The ACR paper addressing remote MRI scanning has just been released. There are still many challenges and opportunities in this space as remote MRI scanning is still in its infancy. This talk will be followed by a panel discussion and audience participation.

Overview: MRI safety standards across the world see their base standards set by the American College of Radiology (ACR). After much discussion about many MRI safety topics in draft form, the new ACR guidelines have been recently released. Bob Watson will give an overview of changes to the ACR document. This will be followed by a Q & A session and round-table discussion.
