Shawna Farquharson, Ph.D., M.Sc. (MRI). B.Sc.
Dr. Shawna Farquharson is an internationally recognised clinical-researcher with over 25 years of experience as an MRI Radiographer in the UK and Australia, working across 1.5T, 3T and 7T MRI platforms. Throughout her career Shawna has served as an Ambassador for her profession. She has held numerous leadership and governance roles within the International Society of Magnetic Resonance Radiographers & Technologists (ISMRT) and the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), including serving as the President of the ISMRT (2019-2020).
In her current role as the Chief Research Radiographer and the National Imaging Facility (NIF) Fellow at The Florey Institute of Neuroscience & Mental Health, Australia, she leads a team of MRI Research Radiographers responsible for providing advanced MR imaging methods to help understand a range of serious diseases including stroke, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and motor neurone diseases, depression and addiction. This role has proven not only to be a great opportunity to undertake ground-breaking work in neuroscience to help understand the structure and function of the brain, but also to further her research into the clinical applications of ‘cutting edge’ imaging techniques to improve post-surgical outcomes. Through her research and engagement with her global network of collaborators from the ISMRT & ISMRM, Shawna has made an exceptional contribution to the field of MRI and achieved high recognition for her work internationally.
